Gilbert started pottery by chance in 2010, after trying out a beginner's class at a studio near his workplace in Singapore (Boon's Pottery). It soon became a weekly Sunday morning activity and his passion in pottery grew over the years.
He quickly moved on from hand-building to throwing on the electric wheel as he enjoys creating larger and symmetrical pieces.
Gilbert took a year off work to devote more time to master the art of pottery in Japan from 2013 to 2014 (まだん陶房). He began to experiment with more forms and textures. He was also introduced to the mouth atomiser glaze-spraying technique, which is a time-consuming yet rewarding process.
An amateur ceramic artist with no artistic aspirations, Gilbert just wants to create "nice things" that people want to own. He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in the summer of 2014, and a charity exhibition in Singapore in December 2014.
